Health Testing

We believe beautiful puppies should begin with thoughtfully selected, health-tested parents. That's why our parent dogs receive comprehensive DNA screening as well as breed-appropriate health testing.

Our genetic screening evaluates hundreds of genetic variants, including conditions relevant to Poodles and Australian Shepherds. We carefully review the results of both parents before planning a litter so that we can avoid pairings that could produce puppies affected by the genetic diseases for which their parents have been tested.

We go beyond DNA testing. Our breeding dogs receive additional health screening that may include OFA hip evaluations, OFA patella evaluations, annual CAER eye examinations, and cardiac screening, as appropriate for the breed and individual dog. Results are documented and available to our puppy families.

Our approach to CDDY

CDDY is a genetic variant associated with an increased risk of IVDD. A positive CDDY result is a risk factor, not a diagnosis that a dog has IVDD.

Because CDDY is common in Poodles and removing otherwise healthy, high-quality dogs from a breeding program all at once can unnecessarily narrow genetic diversity, we consider the whole dog when making breeding decisions. At the same time, we are working toward reducing and ultimately eliminating CDDY from our lines through thoughtful selection over future generations.

Our goal isn't simply to check boxes. It's to make informed breeding decisions using genetics, structural health, temperament, pedigree and the health of the whole dog.
